Tuckered Out Dog Walking announced today that its shelter dog outing program has been featured as a member spotlight in the summer bonus digital issue of Pet Sitter’s World magazine, the official publication of Pet Sitters International. The Richmond, Virginia-based dog walking company was selected by the magazine’s editorial team to contribute a feature article detailing the program’s structure, funding model, and community outcomes.
The article, bylined to company founder Austin Tuck, traces the program’s development from a single donated walk in March 2024 to a sustained community effort that has completed more than 330 outings for adoptable dogs at Richmond Animal Care and Control. Of the dogs that have participated in the program with at least 90 days post-outing to find a permanent home, 98 percent have been adopted.
Pet Sitters International publishes Pet Sitter’s World as a resource for professional pet care providers across the United States. The summer bonus digital issue is distributed to both PSI members and non-members and is available to the public online. Beth Stultz-Hairston, President of Pet Sitters International and Editor-in-Chief of Pet Sitter’s World, reached out to Tuckered Out Dog Walking after learning about the program’s 300-outing milestone earlier this year.
“Being invited to share this program in a national publication is meaningful because it validates the model, not just the milestone,” said Austin Tuck, founder of Tuckered Out Dog Walking. “The shelter outing program was built to be replicable. Any professional pet care company with a municipal shelter nearby and a trained team can do this. If other PSI members read this article and start something similar in their own cities, that would be the best possible outcome.”
The program operates on a sponsor-funded model. A monthly subscription of $45 or a one-time contribution of $50 funds a 60-minute outing for a shelter dog awaiting adoption. The walking team coordinates directly with Richmond Animal Care and Control to identify the dog most in need on any given week. After each outing, the sponsor receives a personalized report and photos. To date, 104 sponsors have funded the program, with the majority on recurring monthly support. The company supplements paid sponsorships with its own donated outings under a ten-to-one matching model.
The magazine feature follows a week of media recognition for the company. On July 6, 2026, the Henrico Citizen published a Small Business Spotlight profile on Tuckered Out Dog Walking, which included interviews with Tuck and coverage of the company’s hiring practices, training program, and community involvement. The two features together represent the company’s first national publication placement alongside ongoing regional media coverage.
All outings through the program are conducted under the company’s force-free, positive reinforcement approach. Walkers complete a 24-hour training program that includes Pet Pro Hero CPR and First Aid certification, canine body language assessment, and supervised field work. Information gathered during shelter outings is shared back to RACC staff to strengthen adoption profiles and help match dogs with compatible families.
“The article gave me a chance to be honest about how this started, which was not with a strategic plan,” Tuck added. “A client lost her dog and asked us to use her remaining prepaid walks for a shelter dog instead of refunding them. That one act of generosity is the reason hundreds of dogs have had a day outside those walls. I wanted other pet care professionals to know that a program like this does not require a big launch. It requires one walk.”
Tuckered Out Dog Walking provides professional dog walking, field trips, and enrichment visits across Richmond, VA and the Near West End and Lakeside areas of Henrico County.
